Summary

Now a #1 National Bestseller!

A journalist who's been attacked by Antifa writes a deeply researched and reported account of the group's history and tactics。

When Andy Ngo was attacked in the streets by Antifa in the summer of 2019, most people assumed it was an isolated incident。 But those who'd been following Ngo's reporting in outlets like the New York Post and Quillette knew that the attack was only the latest in a long line of crimes perpetrated by Antifa。

In Unmasked, Andy Ngo tells the story of this violent extremist movement from the very beginning。 He includes interviews with former followers of the group, people who've been attacked by them, and incorporates stories from his own life。 This book contains a trove of documents obtained by the author, published for the first time ever。

It was a terrible, terrible day, January 6th 2021, the day AntiFa, short for Anti-Fascism, aka, the good guys during WW2, stormed the capitol building of the Unites States of America, in an attempt to stop the certification of a democratic, lawful election。Oh, wait。That was not AntiFa, that was the Alt-Right, also known as American Nazis, The Proud Boys, NeoNazis, Republicans, and Donald Trump's Army。So this book, which is a sad attempt to rewrite history, is basically an Ode to Opposite Day。Nic It was a terrible, terrible day, January 6th 2021, the day AntiFa, short for Anti-Fascism, aka, the good guys during WW2, stormed the capitol building of the Unites States of America, in an attempt to stop the certification of a democratic, lawful election。Oh, wait。That was not AntiFa, that was the Alt-Right, also known as American Nazis, The Proud Boys, NeoNazis, Republicans, and Donald Trump's Army。So this book, which is a sad attempt to rewrite history, is basically an Ode to Opposite Day。Nice try, fella。 。。。more

If you knew relatively little about Antifa, I’m sure you would give this a higher rating。 There wasn’t a lot in here that I didn’t already know。

A must read book on the history and underpinnings of Antifa。 This is an inside look at this often violent group that seeks to overthrow the government and change the country we live in。 As Mr。 Ngo so eloquently put it, "But the world antifa envisions is a literal 'utopia。' Translated from the original Greek, 'utopia' means 'no place。' No society can function as antifia envisions。 Their small-scale experiments at creating separatist anarcho-communist communes, have ended in disaster and death。" A must read book on the history and underpinnings of Antifa。 This is an inside look at this often violent group that seeks to overthrow the government and change the country we live in。 As Mr。 Ngo so eloquently put it, "But the world antifa envisions is a literal 'utopia。' Translated from the original Greek, 'utopia' means 'no place。' No society can function as antifia envisions。 Their small-scale experiments at creating separatist anarcho-communist communes, have ended in disaster and death。" 。。。more

Well worth the read。 Though many of the individual accounts were not new to me it was overwhelming to see them cataloged in one title。 Good detailed first hand accounts of the terrorists activities on the west coast。 Kind of frightening that this can be happening。 Good historical background and detail on the training and organization of the terrorists。 Felt badly for Ngo but also for citizens of Portland and Seattle。

Whoa! Whoa! That was an alley I did not expect to walk through! This author is the expert on antifa and everyone should read this before America becomes the Marxist Utopia antifa intends for it to become。

Unbiased review of of tumultuous 2020 and around events in the USA。

This book was a very well written history of ANTIFA。 Tracing the routes to Europe, before WWII and showing how it not only entered the USA, but most of the book is written first hand accounts of ANTIFA today。 Showing with examples how they really are trying to take over our country, along with showing how many of our institutions are helping them directly and indirectly。 The MSM, the press。 The university system, and the Democratic Party。 It is an eye opener。

Still reading this 。。。 it's taking awhile as the content is confronting and somewhat depressing。There are also some heavy ideas behind the context of the events this book reports that need to be unpacked and that's a process in its own right。That said, my gut instinct is that Antifa and their fellow travellers are but tools in a larger cultural framework that is responding to a decades long trend of growing economic inequality with a move to either revolution (the hoped for goal of Antifa) or th Still reading this 。。。 it's taking awhile as the content is confronting and somewhat depressing。There are also some heavy ideas behind the context of the events this book reports that need to be unpacked and that's a process in its own right。That said, my gut instinct is that Antifa and their fellow travellers are but tools in a larger cultural framework that is responding to a decades long trend of growing economic inequality with a move to either revolution (the hoped for goal of Antifa) or the implementation of a US constitution suspending brutal police state that would make the members of the East German Stasi blush。Given the top down political cover for Antifa activities, I deduce they are aligned with the Establishment Status Quo, and while 'seeking revolution,' they will instead provide the impetus for the 'manufacturing of consent,' for a broad social backlash that suspends the US constitution in favour of a brutally repressive police state。This result, will of course, surprise the many white middle-class Marxist anarchists that populate Antifa who believe they are working toward a Marxist utopia in which the state and policing will wither away。 Instead they will aid the flowering of a neo-fascist corporate state that will line then up against the wall and gun them down in a hail of bullets。。。The fate of all useful idiots once 'the revolution,' has been done to the satisfaction of the power elites。 (I。e。 The revolution has been co-opted by the existing power elites and will be managed in their favour, and sold to the public with all the power of corporate media。。。 welcome to East Germany - US 21st Century style。)Full Review to Come once I complete this book。 。。。more

Well, that was a terrifying read。 The detail Mr。 Ngo goes into how well structured Antifa orgs are to make them seem like “peaceful protestors”and to successfully shield their members from legal consequences is like something out of a dystopian novel。 A must read for anyone concerned about their personal safety。 No one, not even someone as liberal like Ted Wheeler, is safe。 We must all take a stand to say antifa is wrong and their methods are evil。Only real issue is a few typos here and there

I’m someone who really had no clue who Andy Ngo was before reading this book。 May have heard his name once or twice but that’s about it。 I consider myself a Libertarian。 As for the book I thought it was a very interesting read。 I liked that he had plenty of sources linked for points he was making。 I’m assuming as with just about everything In 2021, it has a spin on it。 I do think he made some very good points in on how dangerous the instant calls for justice and social media overall can be。

A really important read。 Mumford and Sons got "cancelled" for posting about this, so you'd better believe I snatched up a copy to read。 Andy Ngo extensively outlines the tactics, rhetoric, and end goal of Antifa, both around the world and particularly in the United States。 This is a super important read, one we need to educate ourselves, and thus take action to not allow our nation to fall to this radical group。 A really important read。 Mumford and Sons got "cancelled" for posting about this, so you'd better believe I snatched up a copy to read。 Andy Ngo extensively outlines the tactics, rhetoric, and end goal of Antifa, both around the world and particularly in the United States。 This is a super important read, one we need to educate ourselves, and thus take action to not allow our nation to fall to this radical group。 。。。more

Though Andy Ngo’s reputation preceded listening to this book, I was genuinely curious to see what type of reporting or insight he would offer on the events related to Patriot Prayer and Antifa activity in Portland since he was on the ground and an eyewitness to much of this activity。 What one encounters here is a comically biased diatribe on the evils of leftists, completely overblown claims on Antifa related action and ideology, and an utterly tiresome tirades of nothingness about the culture w Though Andy Ngo’s reputation preceded listening to this book, I was genuinely curious to see what type of reporting or insight he would offer on the events related to Patriot Prayer and Antifa activity in Portland since he was on the ground and an eyewitness to much of this activity。 What one encounters here is a comically biased diatribe on the evils of leftists, completely overblown claims on Antifa related action and ideology, and an utterly tiresome tirades of nothingness about the culture wars that doesn’t come anywhere close to reporting or intellectual honesty。 It’s simply not a credible account – it’s thoroughly and exhaustingly saturated with tired right wing talking points throughout。 It is extremely unfortunate that Ngo was injured in one of the altercations – no one should have violence brought on them for their political beliefs however skewed they might be。 But this isn't an account - it's a screed。 。。。more

This was really good。 He has some issues。 I think he focused on himself a bit too much。 The afterword was great and really all that should have been about him, but he brought his own experience up a bit too much for my taste。 Like he himself admits, journalists don't want to be part of the story, but he keeps putting himself there。The end of the book easily bumped this up a star。 Honestly, most of this stuff isn't news to anyone who gets their information from somewhere other than the mainstream This was really good。 He has some issues。 I think he focused on himself a bit too much。 The afterword was great and really all that should have been about him, but he brought his own experience up a bit too much for my taste。 Like he himself admits, journalists don't want to be part of the story, but he keeps putting himself there。The end of the book easily bumped this up a star。 Honestly, most of this stuff isn't news to anyone who gets their information from somewhere other than the mainstream media。 Antifa is a bunch of thugs who need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law。 Their actions throughout all of 2020, and continuing into 2021, show that。His ending offered somewhat of a solution。 I agree with him in that the justice system is broken, and the political system is broken (almost to the point where you can begin to agree with some of things Antifa is doing), but it is broken in the way opposite of what Antifa says。 It lets the left get away with everything, and condemns the right for anything。 The complete double standards would be comical if it weren't tearing our country apart。I also would have a hard time labeling Ngo as a staunch conservative。 I'd place him more in the moderate group (if not even left-leaning)。 He always seems to give Antifa an "out" by mentioning what the right was doing, and allowing Antifa to have a reactionary position, which I do not see as true。This book is solid, but lacks any saving faith in Christ。 Antifa also burned Bibles in this timeframe, but that is never mentioned。 Their actions and violence are heavily contained in urban areas。 This book really only focuses on three cities (Seattle, Portland, and Minneapolis); three of the most liberal cities in the US if not the entire world。 The rest of the US is virtually unmolested by their actions, and it would seem like these three cities want to be fiery ruins if that is what people continue to vote for。 Every time Antifa has tried to enter rural areas (or even suburbs) they have been met with heavy resistance。Ngo wrote a solid book。 The justice system needs to be rebuilt to hold people accountable for their actions; and to revert to "innocent until proven guilty。" It is almost ironic; I probably wouldn't have read this, or even known it existed if Antifa hadn't tried to ban it。I also recommend Live not by Lies。 Seriously, this country does NOT want to become communist。 。。。more

An excellent expose on the domestic terrorist group Antifa。 Ngo, at great personal danger and sacrifice, has spent years investigating and reporting on this group that hide behind masks while they smash windows and faces, with the ultimate goal of overthrowing our American democracy。 Ngo is effective at portraying Antifa as they really are, not the imaginary group the left would have us believe, nor the bogeyman behind every violent riot that the right might believe。 As much as I appreciate this An excellent expose on the domestic terrorist group Antifa。 Ngo, at great personal danger and sacrifice, has spent years investigating and reporting on this group that hide behind masks while they smash windows and faces, with the ultimate goal of overthrowing our American democracy。 Ngo is effective at portraying Antifa as they really are, not the imaginary group the left would have us believe, nor the bogeyman behind every violent riot that the right might believe。 As much as I appreciate this book and the work behind it, I found it very depressing。 Perhaps the worst part of this story is not the actions of the useful idiots who are their foot soldiers, but the support they get from the institutions we are supposed to trust most--the media, our elected officials, and our law enforcement agencies。 As long as these institutions do not hold them accountable for their actions, or even outright support them, they will continue to be successful in their mission。 。。。more

I saw a bunch of 1 star reviews for this book which caught my eye, many were ad hominem attacks against the author and not refuting the ideas。 Of course the ideas expressed within couldn't be refuted because the book had not even been released yet。 So thats what spurred my interest in listening to an Audiobook version of it (9 hours long)。 After reading it I can see how a group that condones violent attacks (under the guise of self defense) against an unarmed and non threatening journalist (that I saw a bunch of 1 star reviews for this book which caught my eye, many were ad hominem attacks against the author and not refuting the ideas。 Of course the ideas expressed within couldn't be refuted because the book had not even been released yet。 So thats what spurred my interest in listening to an Audiobook version of it (9 hours long)。 After reading it I can see how a group that condones violent attacks (under the guise of self defense) against an unarmed and non threatening journalist (that it considers to be white supremacist) is on quite a bit of a slippery slope。 It's akin to stating that violence is bad except against "nefarious label" and that I have assigned that label to you and can now attack you regardless of whether you feel the labeling applies。This book is absolutely biased in an anti antifa slant。 That being said it's also an absolutely necessary book。 There are so many news sources and politicians biased in favor of antifa or asserting that antifa is merely an "idea" that a counter argument is necessary to an objective public discourse。 This book gives a useful account of how antifa finances, operates, its involvement in several notable incidents, its history in the United States and across Europe, backgrounds on antifa affiliated individuals, and the like。 If nothing else this book is a very good case of investigative journalism and proves that antifa is much more than an "idea", it's very well organized at least at its local levels。Rating 4。5 (rounded 5)。 。。。more
